Gil, It's a decent list. Slice House, Golden Boy and Arinell are among my favorites in SF. There are a few others that are mentioned that look great in the pictures, but are really just okay in my opinion. It's been a few years since I've tried some of these so, I'll need to revisit.

I've been meaning to try Artichoke Basille, but haven't made my way to Berkeley in some time.

I had Avellino numerous times and it's really nothing to write home about. Marcello's in the Castro should have definitely made that list.

Just picked up a slice of Avellino Pizza on the way home from Sausalito this afternoon. It's been a few years since I've been to Avellino, so I thought I'd give it another shot. My initial reaction is still meh. In my previous reply, I mentioned that some of these places are "just okay". This was the one I was referring to.

Reviews on Yelp are favorable, but I take with a grain of salt. There's always the obligatory "I lived in NYC x years ago, and this is the only decent New York pizza I've been able to find since moving". But that doesn't mean much, and neither do pictures. The pics in the Serious Eats article and the place's Yelp page make it look like an amazing slice, but it's not great.

Sure it's a generous slice, but it's a bit tough. The sauce is salty and overall, it's just off. Quite frankly it was better after it got cold. :-) It was by no means bad, but it's not the best the Bay Area has to offer.

Vito's or Giovanni's in Sunnyvale do a far better NY style slice than this place.

Escape from New York [ http://escapefromnewyorkpizza.com] has a pretty good slice and several locations Marcello's[ http://www.marcellospizzasf.com ] as noted above is also good, as is Golden Boy [ http://www.goldenboypizza.com] - very close to Tony's - for Sicilian slices. The best whole pies are for sure Tony's in North Beach [http://tonyspizzanapoletana.com], Little Star Pizza [http://www.littlestarpizza.com] - deep dish on Divisadero, Pizzeria Delfina [http://pizzeriadelfina.com] (on 16th), and Zachary's Chicago Pizza [http://zacharys.com] across the Bridge in Oakland or Berkeley (again deep dish Chicago--but Oh so good). If your over there anyway might also try The Cheese Board [ http://cheeseboardcollective.coop] , on Shattuck in Berkeley.

Looks like you know all the great spots Brian! I've been meaning to try Cheeseboard for years. I'm never in Berkeley though.

Hello Raj, I lived there for 23 years before moving to L.A. a few years back. And I must admit, I miss it sorely.
