How useful is an infrared thermometer for a home pizza maker?

How useful is an infrared thermometer for an amateur pizza maker? It looks like a neat gadget, but is it a worthwhile investment for someone with a standard home oven?

I've had one for a few weeks now and find it to be very useful especially if you're making multiple pizzas in one night or have an oven that tends to fluctuate in temperature.

Oven thermometers are useful too, but they only show the temperature of the air, not the baking surface.

I have a Blackstone pizza oven and it is more of less indispensable for the Blackstone. It's also useful for home ovens but you can definitely do without one. I find mine useful for quite a few different, non-pizza related uses. I got my for about $30 at Harbor Freight.
