Sharpening pizza cutters

I've got a few pizza cutters in my pizza toolbox, two of which I've had for a while. I also recently purchased one of those rock n roll cutters. How does one keep these sharp? Will a standard honing steel do the trick, or is it advisable to get it sharpened professionally every now and then?

Raj,

Thanks for posting this. I am wondering the same thing. I don't know if you can sharpen the pizza cutter rollers but the rockers should be possible.

When I got my rocker a couple of weeks ago I wondered, after looking at the blade, if it would be sharp enough and it isn't. Maybe a sharpening stone is helpful. I don't think it's possible to correctly sharpen the rocker blade with a regular sharpening steel.

Perhaps a visit at a professional sharpener is needed.

I'm still searching for answers on this one, but I think you're definitely right about the round ones.

The rocker-style seem much more amenable to being sharpened. In a few months I'll take mine into a knife shop.

I've been trying to cut my pies on a bamboo or wooden cutting board instead of a metal pan. I think this will help. Metal on metal seems like a bad idea.
