with limited resources, any suggestion about good pizza sauce?


Hi guys,

There are only a few kinds of tomato product that I could get in my country.

1. Canned tomato (whole peeled)
2. Tomato Paste
3. Fresh Tomato
there is no Ground tomatoes in my country.

So for the Napoletana sauce is easy, but how about the other sauce that call for Ground tomatoes? Such as the New York-New Jersey sauce, deep dish sauce, etc.

Is there is common sauce recipe that only with these 3 tomato products?

Realistically, your ability to make a good sauce will depend on the quality of these three ingredients. Are you able to get Italian spices like dried oregano and fresh basil? Most sauces consist of canned tomatoes and paste along with spices, and possibly oil.

Unfortunately this answer is vague. This is because so much depends on the quality of these ingredients. Could you post pictures of the products? This might give us some idea of the type tomatoes you have access to.

Hi Raj,

I can get:
1.The normal Whole peeled plum tomatoes in can (I can also get the San Marzano type)
2.The tomato paste
3.fresh picked tomatoes
4.also other spices such as oregano, basil, rosemary, and olive oil too.

the only thing missing is the "ground tomatoes" I think

You should be able to make a decent sauce with these tomatoes. You can duplicated the "crushed" variety pretty easily:

Open the can and place the contents in a sieve or strainer. Poke the whole tomatoes with a fork or a knife so that trapped liquids can escape. Of course, make sure there's a bowl underneath the strainer. :-) Let the tomatoes drain for at least 15-20 minutes, up to an hour.

You'll be surprised by how much water is separated. Using an immersion blender or a fork, crush the tomatoes until you get a rough consistency. Be careful with a blender as it's very easy to overdo this.

Attached is a picture of 6 in 1's straight from the can. It's not a great picture, but you can get a sense of the texture.

Hi Raj, thank you for your reply. that sounds like a thick sauce. how about the tomato juice that come with the can? shall I drain it off? or I should keep them with the drained and poked whole tomatoes to make the sauce?
